Overview
Our multi-day tour through southern Morocco (AGADIR / MARRAKECH – OUARZAZATE – BOUMALNE DU DADES – MERZOUGA – ZAGORA – AGADIR / MARRAKECH) will captivate you with its breathtaking scenery, rich architecture, and the vibrant culture of the Berbers and Tuaregs.
You’ll explore oases, majestic mountains, dramatic gorges, fossil-rich black marble, golden desert dunes, grand earthen kasbahs (ksur), the “City of Roses,” and much more.
The journey begins with a drive across the High Atlas Mountains and along the famous “Kasbah Route” toward Ouarzazate, offering spectacular mountain views. We’ll visit the legendary Kasbah of Aït Benhaddou (UNESCO World Heritage Site) and the Atlas Film Studios. The next day, the trip continues toward Boumalne du Dadès via the Valley of Roses and the town of El Kelaâ des Mgouna, before reaching the stunning Dades Gorge.
The following day takes you to the Todgha Gorge — a natural wonder where sunlight paints the cliffs in ever-changing hues — before continuing on to Merzouga, gateway to the vast Sahara. You’ll experience a magical sunset over the dunes and a night under a sky full of stars.
The return journey passes through Rissani and Zagora, with an overnight stay. Along the way, you’ll discover one of Morocco’s largest oases, a lively Berber market, the saffron town of Taliouine, and other hidden gems.
Finally, you can unwind in Agadir on the Atlantic coast, reflecting on your unforgettable journey before flying home — or end your trip in Marrakech instead.
Departure point, duration, and end destination are flexible and can be customized. You can also combine this tour with another to create a 10–12 day grand journey across Morocco.
Tour Details
Day 1: Flight to Agadir (or Marrakech)
You will organize your arrival individually — for example, with Royal Air Maroc or Condor (direct flight approx. 4 hours). Upon arrival, we’ll greet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel in the heart of the city. Your experience tour begins in Agadir or Marrakech, depending on your preference.
Day 2: Agadir – Ouarzazate (Atlas Mountains and Aït Benhaddou Kasbah)
After a relaxing breakfast, we set off toward Ouarzazate. This route, one of the most beautiful in Morocco, crosses the High Atlas Mountains. From Marrakech, we’ll cross the Tizi-n-Tichka Pass (2,260 m), offering magnificent panoramic views of the mountain range.
From Agadir, we’ll drive along the plains between the High and Anti-Atlas Mountains, with an optional stop in Taroudant — often called the “little sister of Marrakech” — known for its impressive city walls and lively souks.
Before reaching Ouarzazate, we’ll visit the famous Kasbah of Aït Benhaddou (UNESCO), a beautifully preserved clay fortress that has served as a filming location for Lawrence of Arabia, Gladiator, Asterix and Cleopatra, The Bible, and more. If time allows, we’ll also visit the Taourirt Kasbah, the former residence of the Glaoui family.
Day 3: Ouarzazate – Boumalne du Dadès
After breakfast, we’ll visit the Atlas Film Studios, then follow the “Road of the Kasbahs” along the Dades River. The drive features lush palm oases, fragrant rose fields, and orchards of figs, apricots, and almonds.
We’ll stop at El Kelaâ des Mgouna, the “City of Roses,” before continuing to the Dades Gorge, where the rock formations glow in shades of pink, red, and violet depending on the sunlight. Dinner and overnight stay in Boumalne du Dadès, enjoying traditional Moroccan cuisine.
Day 4: Boumalne du Dadès – Tinghir – Erfoud – Merzouga (Sahara Desert)
Today we continue along the “Road of the Kasbahs” toward Tinghir, passing small villages surrounded by palm groves and adobe fortresses. In Skoura, we’ll explore Morocco’s largest palm oasis. Then we’ll visit the magnificent Todgha Gorge, with cliffs soaring up to 300 meters high — a paradise for photographers and climbers alike.
Next, we head toward Erfoud, famous for its black marble embedded with marine fossils, before reaching Merzouga at the edge of the Sahara.
Enjoy a magical sunset over the dunes of Erg Chebbi and relax under the starry desert sky.
Day 5: Merzouga – Zagora
After breakfast, we’ll visit the Berber market in Rissani, known for its lively atmosphere and delicious dates.
Then we drive to Zagora, once a key stop on the ancient caravan route from Marrakech to Timbuktu. You’ll see the iconic sign “52 days to Timbuktu,” recalling the long and difficult trans-Saharan journeys.
In the oasis gardens of Amezrou, you can discover traditional irrigation systems and observe daily Berber life at the local market.
Day 6: Zagora – Tazenakht – Taliouine – Agadir or Marrakech
We travel back through Tazenakht and Taliouine, the saffron capital of Morocco. A short stop in Taroudant offers another chance to explore its charming souks before reaching Agadir or Marrakech.
Our journey concludes with a farewell dinner together.
Day 7: Agadir / Marrakech
You can extend your stay in Agadir or Marrakech if you wish. We’ll be happy to recommend hotels and local excursions.
Airport transfer to Agadir or Marrakech will be arranged for your departure.
